LASD Special Education Leadership Committee
Purpose
To investigate and advise the administration on issues related to providing excellence within the special education program in the Los Altos School District.
Membership
Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, program specialist, psychologist, speech therapist, SDC teacher, Resource Specialist, general education teacher, principal, President of IEPTA, and two parent representatives (can be rotated). The committee will have a rotating chair for every meeting. Membership will be for a non-renewable period of two years, with staggered termination dates to prevent complete turnover of the committee.
Constraints
The special education leadership committee is an advisory body to the administration. It will help generate committee reports and serve as a reaction/input group. The committee may make specific recommendations on different topics to the administration, however it will not make final decisions relating to the special education program. The committee will not discuss individual cases or personnel issues.
Meetings
The committee will meet 5 times during the school year on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
Output
The committee will publish summary take-away points from every meeting to the entire special education community. The summary will be published in the district special education newsletter and on the IEPTA website. Members of the committee will be responsible for sharing, educating, and soliciting input from their constituents regarding topics being discussed.
